Mark Makes Further Donation to Northants & Hunts 2010 Festival

On 20 June 2009, at Provincial Grand Lodge a cheque for £2,000 was presented to the PGM  of Northamptonshire & Huntingdonshire, R. W. Bro. George Bonham. This donation was given to help them meet their target of £200,000 in favour of their 2010 Festival for the Mark Benevolent Fund.

Lodges Donate £9,000 to Charities

During 2009, each of the 9 Mark Lodges in Bedfordshire donated £1,000 to charities of their choice varying from Hospices to Motor Neurone Disease.

Mark Donates to Northants & Hunts 2010 Festival

On 20 September 2008, at Provincial Grand Lodge a cheque for £1,000 was presented to the PGM  of Northamptonshire & Huntingdonshire, R. W. Bro. George Bonham. This donation was given to help them meet their target of £200,000 in favour of their 2010 Festival for the Mark Benevolent Fund.

2008 Mark Benevolent Fund Festival

On Saturday 5 July 2008,  the PGM for the Mark Province of Leicestershire hosted the Mark Benevolent Fund Festival for 2008 at the Walker Stadium in Leicester.  This Festival was attended by some 920 guests and the incredible total reached was £627,115. Within that total, the Mark Province of Bedfordshire donated £7,042 from our 9 Lodges representing some £782 per Lodge.  Apart from the host Province, this was the highest donation per Lodge of any Province, the second highest being Netherlands with £522 per Lodge.

£1,000 Donation to Bedford & Luton Women's Refuge

The Mark province of Bedfordshire has recently agreed to give a donation of £1,000 to the Bedford and Luton Women's Refuge run by the charity Christian Family Care.  The Refuge cares for women and their children who have been subjected to domestic abuse and need temporary accommodation.  The donation will go towards the provision of new refrigerators and reception materials to help clients settle in.

New Cancer Scanner for Luton - Dunstable Hospital

At the meeting of Mark Grand Lodge on 13 March 2007, approval was given for a donation of £57,500 to the Luton-Dunstable Hospital.

Before he retired as Provincial Grand Master, R.W. Bro. Harry Arnold received a letter from Mr. Michael Pittam at the Luton and Dunstable Hospital to ask if we could make a donation towards funding a new Xray camera for use in the diagnosis of cancer.  He passed on this request to Mark Grand Lodge Fund of Benevolence.  They have decided to donate the full cost of £57,500 which will provide all that the Hospital had asked for.   The new camera was presented to the Hospital by both Present and Past Provincial Grand Masters and was warmly welcomed by the hospital staff.

£1,000 Donation to St. John's Hospice

In a recent edition of a local newspaper, it was reported that St. John’s Hospice at Moggerhanger had suffered considerable damage in the recent storms and that their limited finances made it difficult to find the money for the necessary repairs.  The Provincial Grand Master, R.W. Bro. Christopher Smith contacted the Hospice and pledged a gift of £1,000 to enable them to put the work in hand.  The funds were subsequently raised in the collection at the recent Installation and topped up with funds already donated to the Mark Benevolent Fund.

 

Paula Priestley, the Area Fund Raising Manager at the Hospice said, “we are delighted to hear that Mark Masons in the Province are so generous – this donation will help us repair the storm damage and continue to provide for the palliative care of our patients”.

£3M Donation to Osteoporosis Announced

At its 150th Anniversary Meeting held at the Royal Albert Hall, the Mark Benevolent Fund announced that it was making a £3M donation to the National Osteoporosis Society to provide an Osteoporosis Scanning Service which will help cut the deficit in bone density scans.  Keith S Carmichael CBE, President of the Mark Benevolent Fund, said: “The 150th anniversary is a major milestone for Mark Masonry. Making the largest charitable donation in its history is a fitting way not only to commemorate this important event, but also one that will have a tangible effect on greatly improving, for many years to come, the health and wellbeing of a considerable number of people, especially ladies.”

Mark Masons Donate to Tsunami Appeal

The Provincial Grand Master, R.W. Bro. Harry Arnold announced that the Asian Tsunami Appeal had received a donation of £2,000 to help in the relief effort.  The money was provided from the Province's Charitable funds all of which have been given by Mark Masons in Bedfordshire.

Mark donates to McMillan Care

The PGM, R. W. Bro. Harry Arnold recently presented a cheque for £1,000 to Gladys Ibbett House, a Macmillan Day Care Hospice for those suffering from Cancer as well as:

a day care hospice
providing palliative care for cancer sufferers and those with life threatening illness
giving patients a day out and carers support and respite
free transport to and from the home
complementary therapies and hairdressing services available
there are no charges other than for a freshly cooked lunch

Mark Donates to Northants & Hunts 2010 Festival

On 26 June 2004, at the Provincial Grand Lodge of Mark Master Masons of Northamptonshire & Huntingdonshire, another cheque for £1,000 was presented to their PGM, R. W. Bro. Roy Bradley. This donation was given to help them meet their target of £200,000 in favour of their 2010 Festival for the Mark Benevolent Fund.
